When we arrived we had such a lovely feeling. A welcome lychee drink and excellent service at the reception. When my wife opened the door of our room she gasped in pleaseure of the oppulance and size of the room. A large king size bed and your own lounge and desk with WI FI Meals have been excellent and the several restaurants are a delight. The breakfast was Oh so Cool !! We met the CEO down to many staff and all greeted us with a smile and a Terima Kasih. After we settled into the room we had really nice coffee and cake on the beautiful grassed area. We felt like royalty with the suroundings and service. Our recommendation to anyone contemplating staying is go for it you cannot go wrong. And for such a reasonable room rate too you will not believe the great treatment and service you will receive.

The Majapahit Hotel (formerly known as Oranje Hotel) is similar in style to the Borobudur Hotel ( http://hotels.indonesiamatters.com/763-borobudur-hotel-jakarta/ ) in Jakarta: an old-style hotel with large grounds and gardens in a strategic location in the centre of Surabaya.
The room itself was surprisingly spacious, although getting there took a while as it is an open-plan hotel and lifts were hard to find. The bathroom was also top notch, with separate bath and shower areas. TV had Telkom Vision, with most of the desired channels on offer.
Gym, spa, sauna and steam room are all on offer, and usually you will be the only person there – you may need to turn on the sauna or steam room when you first arrive.
The pool and kiddie pool were nice; the former was only big enough for playing, not swimming laps.
Breakfast was also really nice, with e.g. 12 different flavours of fruit juice, pancakes and waffles made to order and French-style bread/baguettes.
The only negative experience was being charged Rp50 000 for my 3 year old daughter breaking the glass her complimentary welcome drink came in. It’s not the first time she has broken something, but it is the first time we have had to pay for it.
Another point of interest: while there was CCTV throughout the hotel, unlike most of their 5-star peers ( https://indonesiamatters.com/7518/hotel-security/ ) there was zero security for taxis arriving at the hotel and no metal detector or x-ray machine at the entrance.
