It’s a modern, clean place, although lacking in character. Pricewise it’s a very good deal for a 5 star, although it doesn’t quite feel 5 star.

When I checked in there was a very awkward moment when the receptionist initially wouldn’t accept my booking receipt from Agoda, because I had paid using Paypal and not with a credit card. But I defused it by offering my credit card there and then to cover the deposit, and then it was fine – they billed me around $70 and returned it at end of stay.

The rooms (I stayed in Executive, the cheapest option except for the “Ladies rooms”) are big enough, have a recliner chair and coffee table, and also a desk and executive type leather chair, which is nice. Bed is King sized so not that big, is low to the ground, comfortable. There isn’t really a proper reading lamp by the bed, it’s on the ceiling more or less and too bright. There’s a nice little mini-bar sort of cabinet which has its own light, for making coffee, etc. No free internet for that kind of room, it costs about $10 per 24 hours.

Bathroom is fine, although the shower pressure is too hard and you will flood the floor when you use the shower.

There’s a great view from the rooms of the outer edge of Jakarta’s ‘Golden Triangle’ area, although the windows could do with a good clean on the outside.

Breakfast is fantastic, huge selection of food – mainly Asian – and cakes, bread, fruits, the lot.

Room service efficient and friendly, they’ll know your name and shake your hand when you leave.

Not much nightlife there, the lobby bar closes at 10 or 11pm and it’s for guests only.

I like walking, and walking near the hotel is not enjoyable, the hotel’s on a very busy major road, but there are taxis ready to take you away all the time of course. But if you do walk, go right from the hotel and about 1km down the road is Ambassador Mall – in the basement of it is a Carrefour supermarket, so stock up there. The Mall itself is divided into two parts, one part is slightly classy and the upper floors are mainly computers and handphones. The other half is working class, loads of pirated movies and games to be found there.

A good enough place for a business visit/short stay.
